EXCELLENCE IN PURE CULTURE

March 05, 2019 in Maranello: The mid-engine sports car represents the latest generation of the classic Cavallino Rampante two-seater Berlinetta. It takes the place of the 488 GTB and even boosts its performance. The department responsible for the powertrain based its development on the engine of the 488 Pista, which already has 50% more of its own components compared to the 488 GTB. It was a double challenge: Maintaining the performance level from the 488 Pista and realizing the unique sound quality while complying with the new stricter emission and noise regulations. This Ferrari V8 joins the world of cars that symbolize sportiness and driving pleasure, especially when installed in a two-seater with a center-rear position. Its architecture ensures optimal weight distribution, developed to perfection in more than 40 years of tinkering. The dry weight has even been reduced by 40 kg to 1'330 kg compared to the 488 GTB. When driving at the limit, it provides better control as well as greater comfort on board.

DYNAMICS

The technical data of this V8 are truly exceptional and make it the leader in its segment. The F8 Tributo puts 720 hp (50 hp more than its predecessor) on the road at 8'000 rpm and boasts a specific power output of 185 hp/1. Maximum torque has been increased throughout the rev range and now peaks at 770 Nm at 3'250 rpm (10 Nm more than the 488 GTB). Its significant increase in engine power was achieved in part by lowering the air temperature at the intake tract inlet (about 15 degrees lower than on the 488 GTB) thanks to improved cooling flow management. The aerodynamic efficiency of the F8 Tributo is 10% higher than that of the 488 GTB and this is exclusively due to the increase in downforce without compromising the drag coefficient. This allows the driver to take full advantage of the car's fantastic performance and take corners at high speed, for example, as it literally sticks to the asphalt thanks to improved road holding. This makes for a uniquely exciting and exhilarating driving experience.

DESIGN

From the very beginning, the design team pursued two goals: First, the F8 Tributo was to be a stylistic homage to the Ferrari V8 engine (inspired by the legendary mid-engine sports cars of Ferrari history), and second, it was to have a strong personality all its own, thanks to an even sportier design and its advanced aerodynamics. Its front is extremely marked by the installation of the S-Duct and new, more compact, horizontal LED front headlights have made it possible to install other brake cooling ducts in combination with those on the outside of the bumper. The rear window is made of Lexan and completely shows off the engine compartment. Its rear headlights wrap around the spoiler, visually lowering the vehicle's center of gravity. Inside, all components from the dashboard, door trim and tunnel have been completely redesigned for the F8 Tributo. Its steering wheel rim, with built-in controls and a smaller diameter, provides a better grip and increases the feeling of agility.
